Program Design & Strategy

Program design and strategy is the process of creating a program and its activities to effectively meet its audience’s needs. This is an ongoing process as programs may change over time in response to participant needs, desired outcomes, challenges/barriers, and resource availability. Each of the steps for program design takes place through interaction and meetings with RENI staff and your organization's team. This can include leadership, program staff, board members, or anyone you feel is integral to the conversation.

RENI's overall Program Design and Strategy process includes
Define the Goals and Objectives of your work
Determine what activities should be included in your program
Map the Scope of Work
Identify measurable outcomes
Dissemination of efforts and results

Strategic Plan

A strategic plan establishes the purpose and direction of your organization and programs to meet client needs with appropriate and sustainable efforts. This planning is longer range for 3+ years of your work.

Logic Models

A logic model is a visual map depicting the relationship between your program’s resources and activities and the intended outputs and outcomes of your efforts.

Program Goal and Objectives

A goal defines the broad purpose and overarching desired outcome of the work. Objectives are the Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound actions made to achieve a goal.

Program Outcomes

Outcomes are the desired results of a program’s efforts and include learning, action, and conditions. Selecting realistic and purposeful outcomes is essential to positively impact people and communities.

Literature Reviews

A literature review provides an overview and summary of the current knowledge around your program’s work. This includes identifying best practices common pitfalls, and recommendations for practice and policy.

Scope of Work

A SOW outlines the work of the program including responsibilities, outputs, timeline, milestones, and budget. This is a useful management tool for sustainable and consistent implementation.

Some of the Program Design and Strategy services we offer:

We will meet and discuss your needs and questions. Together we can outline what you would like to gain from the strategy and design process. Based on that, we will work with you to develop a project proposal that will include the timelines, project goals, statement of the work, cost and payment terms, and any other relevant information. Once we have a proposal finalized, we will begin your strategy and design efforts. As community-focused and community-driven evaluators, we like to spend some time with you, your team, and your clients to help us make informed decisions on how to best understand your programs. Sustainable and realistic plans are made when an organization’s culture is represented within the design.

While RENI encourages organizations to fully go through the design and strategy steps comprehensively some organizations just need pieces at a time. Whether it is to check in on their program documentation or complete a required component for a grant application, any of the deliverables above can be completed individually.
